At last I managed to watch Eat, Pray, Love (last week, I had intended to watch it, though it turned out to be business talks, over coffee, and tea, on a not-to-big café, very hectic nevertheless, close to Sabang street) and leaving the cinema with a kind of feeling that you just have seen a good movie (just like a feeling you have after seeing As Good As It Gets, Inception, etc).

Eat Pray Love was beautifully shot, with gorgeous scenes, stunning panoramas, depictions of uniqueness of each city, Rome, New Delhi and Bali, and angles of scenes which conveyed emotions from Elizabeth or Lizz, the female protagonist, but it is certainly not a romance story, although our Lizz met with several men and engaged with them, not a culinary story, although she, in one time, obsessed with spaghetti and pizza, also not a religious story, although she did spend several months in an ashram.

This movie is about a journey of a woman on rediscovering herself, making peace with herself and then living her life, which for me is as valid as it is for everyone.

It began when she felt something was not right in her life, when she was not satisfied with her life which she formerly assumed of wanting children, an awakening, followed by her pursuing the enjoyments of life, food, assuming that this would make her happy, a remembrance of happy times, devotion to yoga, an integration with herself (making peace, forgiving oneself), and then finally, putting the last piece together, fear of uncharted territories, by understanding why she began this journey in the first place and trusting herself completely.

The final scene, crossing over, is the depiction of setting new direction of life by trusting completely oneself although over unknown places.

And I’ll leave you with one proverb, which to me is equivalent to her so-called Physics Law, “Seek and Ye shall find, Ask and Ye shall be given, Knock and the door shall be opened”. Attraversiamo!
