Saat melakukan pengajaran Bahasa Inggris Kurikulum 2013 semester genap, guru harus menyediakan berbagai media pembelajaran. Hal itu sangat diperlukan terutama saat mengajarkan kelas XI cara menulis explanation text. Guru diharaphkan untuk memberikan berbagai macam teks mengenai fenomena alam, fenomena sosial, dan budaya. Dari sekian banyak contoh teks yang beredar diinternet, saya belum menemukan contoh teks mengenai budaya khususnya dari Bengkulu. Karenanya, saya membuat explanation text sederharana yang bertema tabot seperti yang tertulis dibawah ini.
Why people celebrate tabot?
Tabot is one of the most famous cultures from Bengkulu. Its ritual usually marks the start of the Islamic New Year. However, the traditional ritual is not the culture of Bengkulu at first. It was originally performed by Indian Muslim preachers in the Bengkulu region. Why is tabot held every year in Bengkulu? What is the description of the implementation of the tabot in Bengkulu to welcome the Islamic new year?
Tabot is held to commemorate the death of Husein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. Then it was decided to be a traditional culture in Bengkulu. This ritual continues every year for ten days also the government usually organize a cultural festival along with it. The ritual begins with the tabot family by mengambil tanah. Next is the Penja washing ritual. After that, the ritual continued with menjara, arak jari-jari, and arak turban. The next ritual is gam as a moment of mourning after Husein's death. Next, tabot naik puncak which is a symbol of Islam heyday.
The main of this rituals is the releasing of tabot to Karbala, where Hussein was killed. In a festival, activities are followed by 17 replicas of tabot also the community of tabot. This culture is increasingly expanding to various places, but for now only Bengkulu and West Sumatra are still carrying it out.
