Indonesia has a wide-range of traditional food. One island to another has its own distinctive taste. In Yogyakarta for example, their traditional cuisine is called Gudeg.  Gudeg has a distinctive sweet flavor usually accompanied by other Javanese dishes.

Gudeg is made from a young unripe jackfruit, cut into pieces, and then boiled with palm sugar and coconut milk over low heat for several hours. Garlic, shallot, candlenut, coriander seed, galangal, bay leaves, and teak leaves are added to the mix which gives the reddish brown color to the dish. The main taste of this dish is sweet, and it is usually served with white rice, opor ayam ( curry chicken), sambel krecek ( beef skin chilly), tahu or tempe bacem (marinated tofu or soybean cake), and telur pindang (seasoned boiled egg).

You can find it pretty much everywhere in Yogyakarta, but do not worry, you can also have Gudeg while staying with us in Grand Istana Rama Hotel Kuta Bali, because our Samudera Restaurant also serve Gudeg in our ala carte menu. You can enjoy the beautiful sunset of KutaBeach while savoring Yogyakarta’s Traditional food. Have a good dinner!
