Although some people might prefer to pursue their individual responsibility to achieve self-actualization, that is, to prove their self-worth to their surrounding, I prefer to fight for a higher management role in the company i worked for. This is due to two reasons: personal ambition and the need to broaden my affections to the stakeholders.
First, I have a preference to work in a big multinational company which allows me to have exposure on global and complicated issues that might not happened in smaller companies. Inline with that mission, the management position is a logical ultimate destination where a CEO would need to address the company's issues rather than particular unit or department.
Second, I have always wanted to increase my value to my surroundings. When i started to work as a customer service, my affection area might only limited to my branch's customers. However, as i progress in my career, I am proud to be able to give an added value not only in the scope of one branch but also the nation. This is the case when I managed to become a product manager which supervise the sales of the product domestically. Following this path, if i am able to earn a management position, would not it be my greatest achievement, where i could prove myself to the greatest scope available in the company?
In conclusion, self-actualization could be achieved in many forms. An IT expert could feel the satisfaction of helping his clients by solving a problem with their PCs, but working as a CEO would give better satisfaction because the greater scope he could attain.
