PREFACE

Some people keep asking me why I sing English music a lot rather than Indonesian music? Some tell me I'm not nationalist, some tell me that's cool (or maybe they think I just wanna look cool), other people tell me that's weird.

***

I've been singing since I was a little kid, whenever my father came home from somewhere, he often brought a music DVD home, from Pance Pondaag, Betharia Sonata, Teti Kadi, Compilation songs of Whitney Houston and other artists, Bee Gees, Scorpion, Oscar Harris, Vince Gill, and many more.

I enjoyed listening to those songs, sometimes we did karaoke at home, my father and I sang on mic, and just did it, we didn't care about neighbors.

Time flies, and I started to understand that those songs contained adult lyrics, some of them were about love story, broken hearted, relationship between men and women, also some were about anger and desperation.

Knowing that, I began to feel shy about singing loudly at home, because I knew those lyrics were not suitable for kids. But I still love singing.

Afterwards, I grew up listening to Rossa, Cokelat, Peterpan, Nidji, Vidi Aldiano, J-Rocks, Kotak, and more. Singing those songs became even more awkward at home. So I listened to them in silence.

Then, Indonesian music during my college years (at least the music that I came accross) was so beautiful... not only in term of music, but also very heart touching in lyrics. I could easily cry by listening to those songs.

By singing English songs, I thought people (also myself) wouldn't realize what songs were about. But it was more than that, It helped me to enjoy just the music freely, without worrying about the meaning behind the lyrics.

So, I could only enjoy the music itself.

JUMPING ON LIFE

Back when I was 20, I never thought much about what I was going to be (actually I had some, but didn't strongly resonate, or let say I was so hesitant and afraid that they were impossible to pursue).
