Friday, 13th February 2015 was a challenging day for some of Cendekia Harapan Primary School students who had been selected to attend a competition in SD No. 9 Jimbaran. The competition was “Aktivitas dan Kreativitas Siswa SD Gugus III dan IV, Kecamatan Kuta Selatan”. Have you ever heard about the word “Gugus”? Gugus refers to a group of schools in one district that was located close one another. There are 20 schools participated in the competition.

Excitedly, the students entered the room and took their seat. The bell rang at 8 a.m. to inform that each competition was started. When the announcement of the winner was delivered, we were all delighted since Ruka Nakamatsu, Grade 5 student of Cendekia Harapan Primary School achieved the 3rd place winner of “Mengarang Bahasa Indonesia” competition.

Great work, Ruka Nakamatsu! Two thumps up for her efforts on practicing how to write Cursive Handwriting neatly and on making up stories for about six paragraphs with proper standard of Bahasa Indonesia. It was so challenging for her because her parents are originally from Japan. She masters well three languages, such as Japanese, Bahasa Indonesia and English.

The next day, even though the sky was covered with the black clouds, some children of Cendekia Harapan Primary School showed their high spirit in joining the second day competition in SD No. 9 Jimbaran. They started the competition in the same time as the raining started to fall.

The children performed their best in each competition. Then, it came with the announcement of the winner. Abigail Wu was announced as the second winner of “Membaca Bahasa Inggris” competition. Amazing, Abigail! You proved that you are excellent on reading the text comprehensively and with correct pronunciation. With regular practice, Abigail makes us learn that nothing is impossible since both of her parents are not originally from countries who use English as their native language.

For the other children who had participated in the competitions, you are good role model for others to be brave and confident to blend with students from other schools and compete fairly. “No Matter If You Win or Lose, the Most Important Thing in Life is to Enjoy the Process."
