PART OF SPEECH

Part of speech, or in Indonesian known as "kelas kata", are categories used to classify words in a language based on their function in a sentence. There are eight main parts of speech in English, each playing a vital role in forming correct and meaningful sentence.

Nouns (kata benda): Nouns are words used to name people, pleace, things, or concepts. Nouns can be divided into two categories: common nouns and proper nouns. An example of common nouns is "book", while a proper nouns is "Harry Maguire".

Pronouns (kata ganti): Pronouns are used to replace nouns to avoid excessive repetition. Pronouns are divided into several categories, including personal pronouns (I, you, he), possessive pronouns (mine, yours), and reflexive pronoun (myself, yourself).

Adjectives (kata sifat): Adjectives are words that describe or provide additional information about nouns or pronouns. Adjectives explain characteristic such as size, color, shape, or quality. For example, "beautiful flower".

Verbs (kata kerja): Verbs are words that express action, state, or existence. Verbs are divide into action verbs (run, eat) and nonaction verbs (be, have). Verbs also have forms such as infinitive, past tense, and participle.

Adverbs (kata sifat): Adverbs provide additional information about verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. Adverbs explain how, when, where, and how often an action occurs. For example, "quickly run".

Prepositions (kata depan): Preposition are words used to show the relationship between a noun or pronoun and another word in the sentence. Prepositions indicate direction, time, place, and logicial relationship. For example, "on the table".

Conjunctions (kata sambung): Conjunctions connect words, phrases, or clauses in a santance. There are coordinating conjunctions that connect equivalent elements ("and", "but") and subordinating conjunctions that connect a main clause with a subordinate clause ("because", "although").

Interjections (seruan): Interjections are words used to express sudden and strong emotion, often standing alone. Examples of interjections are "Wow!" and "Ouch!".

Each word in English can be classified into one of these eight parts of speech based on its role in the sentence.
