Ukrainian authorities have found a mass grave in the recently liberated eastern city of Lyman and the number of bodies buried there is unknown, local governor Pavlo Kyrylenko said in an online post, Friday (7/10). ).

Separately, the Ukrinform news agency quoted a senior police official as saying the grave contained 180 bodies.

Ukrainian forces managed to retake the town of Lyman, in the Donetsk region, from Russian control on Saturday.

Ukrainian authorities frequently accuse Russian troops of carrying out heinous acts in the occupied territories, a charge Moscow denies.

In September, 436 bodies were exhumed from a grave site in Izium after the city was liberated. Most were the bodies of people who died in the violence, local officials said.

Donetsk Governor Kyrylenko wrote on Telegram that officials in Lyman had found "one mass grave in which, according to local information, there may be soldiers and civilians. The number is uncertain."

Kyrylenko said another grave site with 200 civilian graves had also been found. He did not explain how or when they died.
