The Victorious Person "Arung Palakka"

         In 1696, there were two glorious kingdoms, Gowa, and Bone. It was memorable situation especially for people who lived in South of Sulawesi. Since the early year in 1696, Gowa was the most glorious kingdom other than Bone. Politics, economics, and farms were controlled by Gowa. Furthermore, citizens of another kingdom in South of Sulawesi should obey the rules from Gowa. When Gowa-Tallo was official as an Islamic Kingdom, Bone was conquered by Gowa and gave up from Gowa. Also, in the same year, the crown prince of Kingdom Bone was born. His name is Arung Palakka and soon he became the unforgettable person for Bone citizens.

       Arung Palakka was fighting with different and unusual strategy than another fighter. When his kingdom started to give up from Gowa, Arung Palakka and his family became maid at Prime Minister's house, Karaeng Pattinggalaong. Otherwise, the Bone citizens tried to find a safe place for them from Gowa's army. Although Arung lived as a maid, Pattinggalaong still respected and loved his. Pattinggalaong always taught Arung to become a great warrior. Some years later, Arung was successful to escape from Gowa because Bone attacked Gowa. The attack was led by, Tobala, Regent of Bone. Started from that moment, Arung Palakka tried to ask any help with other Bone leader left. 

      Two years later, Arung Palakka and Tobala attacked Gowa but they were defeated and Tobala died in that attack. Realized how strong the Gowa, Arung gave up again. In the same time, VOC offered aid to Arung Palakka. Not too long after that, Arung accepted it. Despite he felt upset by VOC behavior, he realized that it was the only solution to his problem. 

      Three years lived with VOC in Batavia, Arung became the valuable thing for VOC. He became the reason for the success of VOC. Then, in 1666 was the most important date for his to make his aim for defeated Gowa came true. Despite both Arung and VOC collaborated to attack Gowa, they had the different reason. VOC wanted to fight with Sultan Hasanuddin; however, Arung wanted to release citizens of Bone from Gowa prison. With many armies from both Arung and VOC, Gowa surrendered and agreed the Bongaya Treaty. Soon after that, the citizens of Bone got their freedom to go back their region, Bone. Also, Arung Palakka inaugurated as a King of Bone.

     Truly, Arung Palakka did very well to his people in Bone. Despite Gowa thought him as a betrayer, Arung have become the hero for Bone Kingdom itself.
