The term "globalization" is derived from the words "global" (meaning "the world") and "lization" (meaning "process"). So, globalization is a process by which ideas, knowledge, information, and technology spread around the world. It also involves the transmission of economic, political, cultural, and transportation information. Globalization is a term used to describe how trade and technology have made the world a more connected and interdependent place.
The term "globalization" appeared in the early 20th century. In the 20th century, land vehicles, ships, and airlines made transportation faster. The invention of electronic telecommunications, such as the mobile phone and the Internet, allowed billions of people to be connected in various ways in 2010.
Economist Theodore Levitt is widely recognized as the creator of the term "globalization" through his article entitled "Globalization of Markets." This article was published in the June 1983 issue of the Harvard Business Review.
There are so many impacts of globalization, both positive and negative. not just to ourselves but also to all people in the world. One of the impacts we can have on ourselves is increasing our knowledge. We can access all information on the internet, and we can easily learn everywhere, every time, not just from books.
Impacts on the world that facilitate international marketingeasier to sell products from within the country to be sold abroad. Each country can get a bigger market. So, globalization makes our lives easier.
But the negative impacts make someone an individualist. Technology's convenience can lead people to believe they don't need other people in their activities and to forget that humans are social creatures. Create a consumerist lifestyle as well.
Because of the technology in industry that can produce products in large quantities, people are most likely to buy many things. If there are only a few individuals or communities who can follow the flow of globalization, that can create social inequality.
The final negative impact is a Westernization attitude. Westernization is the act of someone who begins to lose nationalism by doing westernized activities. Europeans and Americans are considered as more modern nations, so many assume that following them will be called modern. But not all Western culture is good or suitable to be applied in Indonesia.
So, what should we do? There are several things or efforts that we can make as teenagers to face globalization. First, we must love and use domestic products. Using domestic products will support the Indonesian economy. Globalization allows us to access information about new things, new ideas, and new cultures.
For that, we need to filter everything we get from the internet because not all information is good, and we must be careful with hoax information. As a good citizen, we must understand and practice the values of Pancasila, our ideology.
The government makes policies to face globalization. There are policies to increase national potential, improve human resources in science and technology, and also improve modern technology so as not to fall behind other countries. For example, they create or offer more jobs. So, it can reduce the number of unemployed people. Make special training for workers and improve education.
