Student from Untag Surabaya Gives Donations to Help Those Affected by Covid-19

Covid-19 outbreak which has been increasing in recent months certainly had a major impact on the economic sector. The pandemic causes decrease in income of some Surabaya residents, especially those who working in home industry sector.

Given the lack of community activity and the decline in income since mid-March, small and medium-sized businesses owned by the residents of Perak Timur experienced a significant decline. Thus, poor people end up struggling to meet their daily food needs.

As a form of support and concern for the residents of Perak Timur to fight for Covid-19 pandemic, Students of Falultas Ilmu Budaya (FIB) or Cultural Science Faculty of Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 Surabaya (UNTAG) went directly to give donations in the form of staple food and fabric masks. Donations are given to underprivileged people in North Surabaya, especially East Perak.

The donation activity was carried out by Arwan Arisakti, Untag Surabaya students as a replacement program for non-regular KKN (Kuliah Kerja Nyata). 

He gives donations which was then distributed in the form of food packages and 3-layer fabric masks. Donation has been carried out for 12 days which is published through social media.

The donation activity was gladly received by residents of Kalimas Baru, one of them is Haryono from Perak Timur. "I represent the residents as chief of RW to express their gratitude for the help of fellow student from Untag Surabaya. 

This contribution is very helpful for residents, especially for the current conditions" Said Haryanto as the chief of RW Kalimas Baru III when Arwan Arisakti distributing basic food and fabric masks donation on Sunday, May 17, 2020.

This activity received full support from Drs. Y.B Agung Prasaja, M.Hum as Field Supervisor of Universitas 17 Agustus 1945's Non-regular KKN replacement activities . Food and fabric mask donation were held in the Perak Timur sub-district of Surabaya. The target of donation is poor citizens who struggle hard to fight Covid-19. The student hope that with the food and fabric masks donations, residents can be helped to meet their daily needs and stay healthy in this pandemic time.
