STRAIGHTEN INTENTIONS BY TAJDID THE NIYYAH
By Anisah Setyaningrum
In everyday life, intention is important in initiating every human activity. Especially for Muslims, intention must always take precedence. This is because the final result of man's deeds is judged by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala based on that intention. As it was narrated by Bukhari and Muslim in the following hadith.
"Indeed, all charity depends on intention. And indeed, each man shall obtain according to what he intends. So, whoever (intention) his hijra goes to (the pleasure) of Allah Almighty and His Messenger, then his hijra is to Allah Almighty and His Messenger; and whosoever (intent) his hijra is towards the (desire) of the world he intends to obtain or the woman he intends to marry, then his hijra is only to the extent of what he intends."
Intention is the essence of all charity in the form of deeds and speech. A person's actions when it be based on good intentions, will get a good reward. On the other hand, when the deed is based on bad intentions, it will get a bad reward.
There are some benefits when the heart is always well-intentioned. Besides the person will get reward as he intended in the hereafter, sometimes the reward is also found in the life in this world. Someone with good intention will find opportunities to do good in good places and will be met with good people. Therefore, in every thing we do in this life, we do need to tajdid our niyyah to be good intention.
