PLTD Apung Monuments, Silent Witnesses of The Stunami Disaster

The force of the stunami that hit north coast of Banda Aceh in December 2004 still leaves a trail. Not just remind in our mind , stunami also leaves trail was monuments . A monument to a warning to everyone that the power of nature.

One of them is a PLTD Apung monument in punge village, blangcut, Banda Aceh . As a name , this ship was A power source for the region of ule lhee.

The stunami occured on December 26 2004. The ship was swept by a 30-foot [9m] tide and shifted toward the heart of the city of Banda Aceh for 5 miles [5k]. The ship was slammed into the middle of recidential area not far from the stunami museum.

Of the 11 crew mambers and some resident on board when the stunami occured , only one survived . The shifting phenomena of this ship indicate the force of the waves that hit SERAMBI MEKKAH at that time.

Currently, areas surounding PLTD Apung was purchased by the goverment to become an educational tourist attraction . Around the monument , the wall was carved in relief resumbling a flood wave. From the top of ship, visitor can also see the chain of mountain ranges.
