GAMELAN NOISE

Adalah sebuah film pendek independen karya Andra Fembriarto yang menceritakan asal-muasal persahabatan anatara Indonesia dan Australia yang terbantu oleh sebuah gamelan legendaris.

Genre : Mockumentary
Duration : 23.40
Director's Cut : 2011

"Culture is not something to only be preserved... but to be enhanced."

Daneef, an experimental noise-music artist, gets an artistic challenge from the great film director Carlos de Great. Carlos wants to see if Daneef can make a live experimental performance using Indonesian traditional instruments.

Daneef finds inspiration in the form of the Gamelan Digul and its history about how Indonesia and Australia first became friends in the Second World War.

His journey takes him to Melbourne and other places he's never been before physically and mentally. He delves into his deepest artistic soul. Finally, with a set of gamelan and a concept of recreating the sound-scapes of the political exiles in Digul, Daneef holds a mind-blowing performance for Carlos and the whole audience.

This short mockumentary is originally part of the feature film "Under the Same Sky" but it is now reedited and remastered as a stand alone film.

This film is one of the first Indonesian films to touch on the subject of the Digul political prisoners, Indonesian history in Australia, and experimental noise music.

Screenings coming soon!
