Mary Wollstonecraft, who was born during the year 1759, repudiated those rigid obligations that society imposed on women then. Personal impediments notwithstanding, she pursued her educational interests and became prominent in feminism.

One of the major pillars of feminist philosophy is “A Vindication of the Rights of Woman”, which happens to be Wollstonecraft’s best known work. In this revolutionary text, she challenged patriarchal standards that shaped existence in her day and restricted women’s rights as well as opportunities. The author of “A Vindication of the Rights of Woman”, Mary Wollstonecraft has advocated for women’s intellectual equality, financial independence and political participation among others. This laid down foundations for later feminist movements based on her unwavering belief on the capability of women and criticism to double standards by society.

Besides morality Ferguson supporting feminism, she was a great author like no any other. Among the subjects that she tackled include fiction, politics and education among others. Foremost among these are her major novels such as “Mary: A Fiction” or “Original Stories from Real Life”, which captured various perspectives about relationships between individuals and society. Similarly, her historical analysis is evident in the nonfiction book entitled “A History of the French Revolution”.

Wollstonecraft’s legacy extends beyond her life. Today, her thoughts on social justice, education as well as emancipation for women are still very much alive and shaping human civilization.
