Thailand is the first country in Asia to legalize marijuana for consumption. In fact, the government also allows citizens to grow marijuana at home, hope that it can help develop the cannabis trade and improve the agricultural and tourism sectors.
The decision started from last year when Thailand's Food and Drugs Administration removed marijuana from their country's list of narcotics. Since then, Thai people have flocked to register as cannabis growers via website plookganjaweb.fda.moph.go.th. Approval will be based on their reasons for growing marijuana. The reasons that will be accepted are to improve health, be used as traditional medicine, also commercial and industrial needs.
Not only for humans, the use of marijuana is also allowed for chickens so they can eat organic food. So, the quality of chicken meat and eggs are increases. Peth Lanna Community President, Sirin Chaemthet, also said that giving marijuana to chickens had a positive impact because it increased the chicken's immunity and more effective than injecting antibiotics.
Beside that, smoking weed will be subject to criminal sanctions, just like smoking in public places. The sanctions that will be imposed are 3 months in prison or a fine of 25 thousand THB or around 10.5 million in Rupiah.
