Hey!
Today I was thinking about the difference between active and passive learning... output vs. input.
The truth is, if you understand English, you should be able to speak it, too.
If you can't, it's because you absorb English more than you produce it.
Let me give you some examples...
These activities will help you understand a language:
- Reading
- Listening
- Watching movies
- Listening to music
- Learning vocab with apps
- Watching YouTube videos
- Sitting in a class and listening to a teacher
These are all activities that you do alone, and they don't make you fluent. They help you understand a language. In fact, they can help you get REALLY good at understanding English. I have thousands of subscribers on YouTube who understand every word I say, but they can't SPEAK English.
Why is that?
Because they don't do the following activities...
These activities will unlock your fluency:
- Writing
- Speaking
- Chatting
- Conversations
- Phone calls
- Making videos
- Giving presentations
- Teaching what you know
Do you see the difference?
