I assume you know the game called "Minesweeper" This game is already installed in Windows operating system. Actually this game is very logical game or you can say "very mathematical game". In this game you have to choose and open the box, the box is contain either numbers and mines. In the end, you have to open all the box which contains number without open the mines box. If you open the box with mines in it, you lose. Actually, the number that appear behind the box can lead you to avoid the box with the mines inside. The question is "How, can we read the number to avoid mines???" Psssttt, Here is the secret.... Actually, the numbers inside the box tells you about the mines around it. If the box is shown number "1" is mean that around that box (the box you already open and give you "1") you only have one mines. What is around than? In this context, the word around means "on all sides". For example: (The box with "v" is called around "1") (this illustration also shows you that there is only one mines around the box "1") That is the introduction of this game. Now, we move on to the secret "how we can read that number and find the mines?" First of all, I want you to remember your math lesson in junior high school about sets theory. In sets theory we introduced with set union "u" and intersection "n" law, in this game we only using an intersection law. Let's play. If the display show this part. Where is the mines located A, B, C or D??? Look the number "2" in the circle and mark around it, we know that there is 2 mines around it. Next, take a look the box under the circeled 2 also appear numbers "2". Which mean also have 2 mines around it. If we compared the both figure we have, like this The box that appear in both sets, which is box C and D are the mines that we have to avoid. maybe this can be alternative for our children to study the sets theory especially intersection law... nice to share...
