Introduction
Fasting in Ramadan is one of the obligatory observances for Muslims. Fasting has many meanings and purposes, one of which is to enhance one's spirituality. In addition, fasting also teaches to refrain from bad deeds, such as violence and war. In this article, we will discuss the importance of fasting in Ramadan in Islam, the purpose of increasing spirituality through fasting, and the relationship between increasing spirituality and rejecting war or violence.
Fasting in Ramadan not only has a positive impact on the person who practices it, but also for society and the world globally. In today's global context, humanity around the world must work together to create peace and reject acts of violence and war. One of the current conflicts that needs to be rejected is the Ukraine-Russia war. In this regard, fasting can be one way to build awareness and appreciate human values and reject acts of violence and war that harm humanity. Because when a person feels close to God through fasting, then he will be more aware not to kill God's creatures, let alone humans who feel God. Therefore, improving spirituality through fasting in Ramadan should also have a positive impact on society and the world at large. Today many people in the world feel godly and educated and have positions and social influence, leaving the war in Ukraine and Russia with US interference to chance. The loud voices of peace have not come to the fore much.
Improving Spirituality Through Fasting
Fasting in Ramadan is a worship that has the aim of strengthening man's relationship with God and increasing one's spiritual awareness. In the Quran, fasting has many meanings and purposes, one of which is to enhance one's spirituality. As mentioned in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 183, "O believers, it is obligatory upon you to fast as it was required of those before you that you may practice piety." Fasting helps one to attain piety and draw closer to Allah Almighty. In addition, fasting also helps a person to feel close to Allah Almighty and his soul is ready to receive piety. Fasting can also help a person to avoid sins on other days outside of Ramadan
