120 million people worldwide are displaced owing to massive conflicts and climate crises, marked as the world's largest forced movement of people. They have been living in uninhabitable territories where climate change and conflict are prominent issues in places such as Sudan, Myanmar, Syria, and Somalia. Â UNHCR report, 12/11.
"For the world's most vulnerable people, climate change is a harsh reality that profoundly affects their lives", said UN High Commissioner for Refugees,Filippo Grandi.
Refugee camps are experiencing rampant phenomena such as floods, extreme heat, droughts, and storms. The most horrific reality is that they have no place to hide, live, or find refuge, as they deserve as human beings.
Grandi also added, "The climate crisis is driving displacement in regions already hosting large numbers of people uprooted by conflict and insecurity, compounding their plight and leaving them with nowhere safe to go."
The immense number of forcibly displaced people is intolerable, as their rights are at risk, jeopardizing the virtuous goals of sustainable development. According to the report titled No Escape: On the Frontlines of Climate Change, Conflict, and Forced Displacement, the UNHCR stated that the number of countries facing tremendous climate crises will rise from 3 to 65, with the vast majority hosting unwillingly displaced people.
