The Uniqueness of Sate Lalat

It wouldn't be complete if you didnn't visit one of the culinary places in Pamekasan, namely satay. There is a satay which is one of the characteristics of Pamekasan. Tourists will be surprised by its name, namely sate Lalat. The name satay sounds strange because it is similar to the name of an insect. Despite the name insect, this satay is not made frome flies.

Sate lalat is one of the typical foods in Pamekasan. This Sate lalat is made from goat, beef, and chicken meat that is skewered with a stick. The meat is cut into small pieces that resemble flies. Deliberately not pierced with satay sticks in general so as not to damage the texture of the meat.

The processing of sate lalat is the same as making satay in general, namely dipping the skewered satay in a mixture of cooking oil and soy sauce. After the meat is half cooked, dip it back into the mixture of cooking oil and soy sauce, to make it more delicious. The satay is grilled over charcoal until cooked. Once cooked, the satay will be served with peanut sauce and soy sauce. There is nothing different, the processing of peanut sauce is the same as peanut satay sauce in general, namely fried peanuts that are finely blended with onion. Then mixed with sweet soy sauce. It will be more delicious and full if this sate lalat is served with lontong.

Tourist or buyers can find satay sellers around the city of Pamekasan, generally on Jl. Niaga. Usually this sate lalat seller starts selling his satay from the afternoon until the evening. Buyers don't need to worry because the price is very affordable, namely Rp. 12,000/ portion.

"The types of  sate lalat that are often sought after by buyers are chicken and goat satay. So, I brought a larger portion of the two satays." Said Pak Dul, one of the sate lalat traders (Saturday, Juni 16 2024).

Uniquely, most sate lalat sellers in Pamekasan wear traditional Madurese clothes, namely flowing red and white clothes. So, if you see a satay seller wearing these clothes, you can be sure that the person is selling sate lalat.

"The way I increase my income is that I onlu ensure that the meat I use is fresh and new. Because I'm old, I don't understand the use of social media that is widely used by young people today. Most of my customers are customers who frequently buy from me." Pak Dul said.
